Panic of LP Gas Shortage: Panacea could be Fuel Briquettes

Women making Briquettes in Balambu, Kathmandu
It is not a new to have news of fuel shortage in Nepal. LP gas and Kerosene fuel imported from India are being extensively used not only in urban areas but also in rural areas. Obviously, they are more efficient and less polluting in compare to firewood fuel. But the problem is, they are not indigenous products hence have to depend fully upon India. Supply, pricing, quality control, for everything, the users are dependent in Indian Fuel market. In many of the cases, this dependence has been exploited in inter-governmental and internal politics.
After listening to news today about dire shortage of fuel in Kathmandu, I remembered this technology, which I observed in an exhibition few years ago. I came to know that production of briquettes is getting expanding, opening up the employment opportunities in rural community. The briquettes made up of Paper waste, charcoal of Banmara plant, saw dust are available in market now and different types of efficient stoves for using briquette is being developed. Its advantages over conventions firewood is, it has negligible smoke and lot cheaper than LP gas and Kerosene.
Using this product, you are simultaneously having following advantages:
1.  Supporting rural communities
2. Reduction of solid waste
3. Recycle and reuse of the waste converting 'waste into money'
4. Reduction of your expense in household fuel.
5. Enjoy freedom - from the dependence to the foreign import.

Realize - we throw our resource and buy resource from others (foreign country), not because we are rich enough to buy them but because of the ignorance about the diamond under own feet.

I would expand writing more on this after using it myself in my house.

Following resources explains more detail about it:
